Emmy Da Vinci - Van Gogh

Part of being a parent is being proud of the small things your children do.  It just comes with the territory.

Emmy has been loving to draw and color lately.  This is a new thing for her.  She used to color for just a few minutes at a time and then she was done, and when she would "draw" it was her telling me what to draw for her.  But now she can sit and draw and color for a good 20 minutes, as long as she has lots of markers/crayons and paper.  It's so fun to see her little mind come to life on paper!  And she's starting to stay in the lines of coloring books a little.  I love it!

So the other day, we were going over letters of the alphabet.  I would show her the letter, how to write it and then draw pictures of things that start with that letter.  I started with "A".  I drew and apple and Ariel (gotta add in the Disney Princesses!).  I turned my attention to something else for a minute and looked down at the paper.  There was a perfect little apple that looked like mine.  I couldn't remember drawing it so I asked Emmy if she drew it and she excitedly told me she did.  It was so good!  She also showed me the whale she drew.  It was also very good!  I was really impressed that a 3 year old that just started drawing shapes and objects by herself could do such a good job!

And just to prove that is really is good, I scanned the picture so you can see it:

{Don't judge my artistic skills - I'm not an artist!}

We then moved on to the letter "B".  She had fun drawing some more and she ended up drawing lots of balloons and her first little man!  She showed it to me and told me it was daddy.  I love it!

Here is that picture:
{I love that the head probably started out as an apple and turned into daddy with only legs, no arms}

It's so fun to get a glimpse into the minds of these precious children!  Can I help it if I'm proud of these adorable squiggles?  I think they are actually pretty good.  But I am the mom.

I totally blogged Madelyn's first drawings, too. It's so awesome when they start producing recognizable things!

What a little smartie. She draws so well! I love the pic of "daddy", it looks like an apple with body parts. So cute!
